Trade Unions

On Monday 18th July we took a motion to the full council asking for the Borough to encourage staff to join a trade union. We did this because  we want Northampton Borough Council to be an exemplary employer. Good employers attend to the well being of their staff. Trade unions provide lots of benefits to staff. They know all about employment law and so safeguard workers rights. They  are useful to employers in representing the collective voice of the members when it comes to organisational change, pay and conditions. The also provide lots of free training for staff across a range of issues. As importantly they also provide opportunities for the whole family. Indeed my union, Unison, is organising a family day to Scarborough soon. Needless to say the majority conservative group voted the motion down.
