The Eastern District

I wasn't given the opportunity to speak at the budget meeting of the full council. This is what I would have said-

I am very passionate about Talavera and the Eastern District. I am pleased to see proposals in the alternative budget that will support that area of the town.We have lots of issues that need to be addressed. Some of those issues are being addressed by local organisations and voluntary groups but they need help. The Growing Together Neighbourhood plan, which I am pleased to say, has just been accepted in a local referendum, will help. But some of the issues are structural so I am pleased to support the idea of £100,000 being used to improve the public realm in Talavera. I also like the idea of us bringing in new money, through Social Investment Bonds, to create a one stop shop for the Eastern District.

Disadvantaged families in the Eastern District find it hard to get into town because bus fares are so expensive. A day ticket for an adult costs £4.30 and for a child £3.30.

Please support the alternative budget.
