Speech on Neighbourhood Coordinators

Thank You Mayor,

I want to briefly say how important it is to have neighbourhood coordinators. Ideally we should have at least 4 coordinators in Northampton but we are being prudent and only suggesting we have 2 for now. Each neighbourhood coordinator works with the various groups in the community and brings them together. Neighbourhood coordinators build up a vast knowledge about their area which is invaluable for both councillors and residents alike.

Neighbourhood Management Committees allow the various stakeholders to sit round the table and talk to each other and agree a common way forward.  Since Neighbourhood Coordinators were scrapped the various voluntary sector groups like residents associations have become more detached from one another.

Some communities of the town don’t have Parish Councils to act on their behalf and so desperately need alternative support from this Borough Council. I hope the Conservative Administration will support the re-introduction
