Road Adoption

At the full council meeting of NBC tonight, Cllr Julie Davenport will be urging the present Administration to use whatever influence it can to ensure the County Council adopts all roads within the town.

This evening Cllr Davenport will be proposing a motion to mandate the Borough Council to try and do something about the problem of unadopted roads.

Labour’s Cllr Julie Davenport, Delapre and Briar Hill, said:

“As a councillor I have seen first hand the problems when the County Council does not adopt a road. It leaves residents with real problems when it comes to repairs and maintenance.

I appreciate Northampton Borough Council is not technically responsible for Highways but I want them to use their influence, particularly through the planning process, to ensure that the County Council adopt all roads in the town.

When the Administration at the Guildhall does discuss these matters with Northamptonshire County Council we want them to advocate a Section 38 agreement which is supported by a bond or cash deposit. This bond or cash deposit can be called upon if the developer goes into liquidation or otherwise defaulting on their responsibilities. Through the planning process the Borough Council must ensure a Section 38 agreement is always in place when considering future developments.”
