Public Meeting

Castle Ward Councillors held a public meeting at the Open Door Centre last night to discuss the issues residents and traders have in Colwyn Road, Hood Street, Cowper Street and Kettering Road. The meeting was called in response to the many complaints the Councillors have received about litter and the state of the streets. The Councillors have produced a leaflet called “Please Help Us”, explaining about collection times and recycling. Local people are delivering the leaflet in their streets. Environmental services are being asked to do a deep clean to start the improvement in the area, after which everyone else can help maintain a high standard. Cllr. Danielle Stone said, “We see this as a collaborative effort with the Borough doing their bit and the traders and residents doing theirs. We need to all work together on this one. We are sure we can make a difference. We need to let all the landlords, the traders and every household know we want our streets clean and tidy and they can help us.” Cllr. Haque said, “Many other issues were brought to our attention, such as HIMOs, parking, uneven pavements and the noise from the Racecourse. We will deal with these issues and report back to the next meeting in December.” Cllr. Cali said, “It was good to see such a high turnout from residents and traders. We look forward to working with them so we can address all the issues in these few streets.”
