New Generation Council

I attended a workshop for Councillors on Thursday. We looked at how Councillors can be effective in the New Generation model of service delivery agreed by the County. Labour opposed the New Generation model but we need to find a way of getting the best for our constituents. The workshop looked at a model for getting casework done more effectively. We asked for a dedicated Cllr. helpline. This will allow our cases to be properly documented and this will provide additional evidence for how  to prioritise budgets. I also asked that under the new model Scrutiny panels are not chaired by the administration and have wider powers. We also looked at community engagement. Under this heading I championed a cause dear to Labour hearts. This is a system of social prescription and social brokerage. This is where all the needs of vulnerable adults are looked at. Social needs as well as health and care needs. Social brokerage is the system that we need to put in to ensure all those needs  are met. Giving information is not enough! Most of us need help getting everything we need put into place. The vulnerable even more so.
