Labour’s Cllr Rufia Ashraf is determined to make St. James a Litter Free Zone. Using the law, Council resources but most importantly community will power, she wants the area to be the cleanest and greenest in the town.
In a document she outlines her initial thoughts on how such a campaign will work.
Labour’s Cllr Rufia Ashraf said:
“After speaking to local residents and visitors to the area it was clear they were frustrated with the level of litter on our roads and streets. They have asked me to try and do something about it.
So I am in the process of setting up a campaign to make St James a Litter Free Zone.
Consultation will be held to determine whether it will be a positive move to help keep the area litter free and also discuss ideas. It will come with enforcement and local determination of residents to keep St James clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.
My consultation dates are as follows,
Monday 9th May, outside Iceland from 11-1pm
Monday 9th May, at Doddridge Centre from 5.30- 7.30pm
Wednesday 11th May, at St James Library from 9.30-12pm
Thursday 12th May, outside St James Primary School, Harlestone Road from 2.45-3.30pm
If you are passionate about the environment and want to help improve it then get in touch with me and become Community Ambassadors for St James, help enhance the area and keep the environment clean and tidy where we live.”
