Following the referendum Cllr Danielle Stone said:

“As a democracy we must accept the result and people have voted to leave. Northampton and the wider county have clearly voted to leave. The leave vote was higher in Northamptonshire than the national average.

Personally I am very disappointed and saddened by the result as I really wanted the United Kingdom to remain a member of the European Union. I fear residents and businesses in Northamptonshire will suffer as result from Brexit. The world’s problems are not going to go away just because we have left. The consequences of this will be felt for years if not decades.

The referendum campaign talked to the disempowerment, pain and fear felt in many communities. Communities over many years have felt abandoned. We are a divided country. We now need to work for hope not hate. It's our job as Councillors to engage at the grass roots and fight for jobs, security, affordable housing and a better environment.”
