Better Budgeting

The Labour Group budget provides for now and plans for the future. We have taken much care to ensure all our proposals are fully costed. We think the budget process can be done better and in more innovative ways. We want to this Council use smart budgeting were money gets allocated to priorities rather than being divided up amongst silos. We also want to look at Social Investment Bonds as a way of achieving results and bringing in additional money. The good thing about Social Investment Bonds is that the risk is not with the Borough Council.

In our manifesto we said we would keep the Councillor Community Fund as long as the New Homes Bonus was available. Much of the New Homes Bonus is being diverted to Social Care. The original Scrutiny Panel recommended £1500 was what the Council could afford. We therefore are proposing to cut the Councillor Community Fund by half. We will keep free parking for the first two hours but it shall be £3 per hour from 3 hours.
